Corrie’s Julia Goulding reveals new details about Shona Ramsay’s hostage plot

Coronation Street's Julia Goulding has hinted at a twist in Shona Ramsay's upcoming hostage storyline.

Upcoming scenes will see Shona get held captive after she makes the decision to help her son, Clayton Hibbs - and it goes horribly wrong. Photos released by Coronation Street show Shona stumbling out of a building where she had been held hostage by Clayton, covered in blood as her boyfriend, David, runs to her. But it seems that the photos may be from the second time Shona manages to escape the building, after Julia said her character runs back inside to protect her son once she sees the police officers show up. According to Digital Spy, Shona will visit Clayton at an abandoned building where he had been hiding after his escape at his father's funeral. Despite the cops tracking Clayton down and surrounding the building, the killer decides to use his mum as a hostage and makes a number of demands while holding her at knifepoint. The siege will continue into the double bill on Monday, March 4 - with Shona managing to get the knife away from him. When she runs out of the building, she comes face-to-face with a wall of armed officers...and then runs back in to try and protect her son. Julia told the publication there was a "pivotal" moment in the hostage situation, where Shona hugs her son. She continued:

"She is holding her baby and she knows the person that she has been trying to get him to be for the whole siege is right there in her arms.

"However, she knows by this point that he is lost to her and she has to make that survival instinct, so the second that she hears the knife fall to the floor, she knows that it is her only chance. She legs it out but that’s when she sees the guns.

"That's when Shona’s maternal side comes out. She has just had her baby in her arms, but then she runs out and she sees the guns and she’s straight back in there, even though she knows it is probably not going to end well."

The actress explained that it was "really scary to film" the scenes, as when she left the building "there were all the police and all the cars" - although she also said that it helped her get in the zone. She added that she understands why Shona would go back into the building for Clayton. She continued:

"I kept trying to think if it was my mum who had done this horrific thing, I would still forgive her because it’s that unconditional love and I would still want her to become good, just like Shona believes that in Clayton somewhere is still her little boy."
