Couple Who Lost 3 Children on Flight MH17 Welcome Baby Girl

Katie Mythen-Lynch

An Australian couple who lost all three of their children in the flight MH17 disaster have welcomed a baby girl.

The Maslin children (twelve-year-old Mo, ten-year-old Evie, and eight-year-old Otis) were travelling home to Perth with their granddad Nick Norris after a family holiday in Amsterdam.

Safe in the knowledge their children were well looked after, Maz and Rin Maslin decided to stay on for a few extra days. Sadly, their lives were to change forever when rebels shot down the Malaysia Airlines flight above eastern Ukraine on July 17, 2015.

A total of 298 people lost their lives in the disaster – including four members of the Maslin family.

Two years after their lives were destroyed, the couple have a new reason to keep going:

“Violet May Maslin came in to the world on Tuesday 10 May, bringing with her love and light, hope and joy.” read a statement released by the family.

“Our family was torn apart when MH17 was blown out of the sky by the violent anger of a nationalist missile, on July 17, 2014. Our three innocent, beautiful and inspiring children were killed, alongside their grandfather, Nick Norris.

“We believe that Mo, whose 14th birthday was Saturday, Evie, 12 next week, Otis, 10 next month, and Grandad Nick have sent us an amazing gift. Violet’s birth is a testament to our belief that love is stronger than hate.”

We wish them all the best with their new beginning.
