This couple ran a marathon on their wedding day

Laura Holland

Wow.

Most couples will be taking it easy on their wedding day. All the organising is done and all you have to do is sit back and enjoy the day. For the girls, it usually begins with hair and makeup, followed by some photos and then off to the ceremony. For the boys, maybe a hot towel shave and a few pints before heading to the wedding.

The last thing you would think any couple would be doing is running a marathon – but that’s exactly what this couple did. Joel Tse and Amanda Hughes took part in the Brooklyn to Coney Island marathon first thing on the morning of their wedding.

Not only that, they were joined by 55 guests, one of which was pregnant.

They got a group photo after they completed the run and we have to say, it does beat most of the wedding morning photos we’ve seen.

Speaking to The New York Post, Amanda said, “We had this thought of, ‘Would it be crazy to do this? But, actually, it would be crazy not to.”

The couple first met while training for another marathon so they thought this was the perfect way to start their wedding day.

They began the race at 7am, finished it by 9:45am and rushed home to prepare for the wedding ceremony and night.

Commenting on the day, Joel said, “We packed so much into this one day. But it felt fantastic. It reinforced how important the running community is to us.”

Fair play to them, it’s definitely not what most couples would be able for on their wedding day.
