A couple have been left “speechless” after welcoming their twins – who were born in different decades.
Indiana-based Dawn Gilliam went into labour on December 31, giving birth to her daughter Joslyn in 2019. And half an hour later, her son Jaxon was born – on January 1, 2020.
Local news outlet WSAV [via PEOPLE] reports Gilliam wasn’t due to give birth until February 19.
“We’ve known for a while that she was going to be born first,” the mum said of her daughter Joslyn. “She’s been in position for most of the pregnancy. Of course, he was breech. So, it took a while for him to come.”
Jason Tello, the father of the twins, said that they were “still overwhelmed” following the brith of their children.
“Earlier, we talked about how it would be great to have them born on different dates. But here we are with this surprise — different dates, different years,” he said.
“That was definitely interesting for us for sure. We’re still kind of speechless still.”
And Gilliam explained to Today Parents that the twins already have some pretty distinct personalities.
“[Joslyn] won’t hold my finger, but she will grip onto Jason’s,” Gilliam said. “The other day, when I was holding her, she opened her eyes, squinted really hard and then shut them. I gave her back to Jason and she was happy again.”
