The Crown is going to recreate Princess Diana’s famous Panorama interview

It's going to be a very tense season.

The latest instalment of The Crown is on the way and with it set to focus in on the 90s, we knew we'd be in for a lot Princess Diana's life before her untimely death. While we don't know exactly how much detail they're planning on telling about this era of Diana's life, according to reports, there will be an episode that will take a look into her controversial interview with Martin Bashir for BBC Panorama. Diana, who will be played by Elizabeth Debicki, sat down with the journalist for the 1995 interview that shocked the world. An insider revealed to The Sun: "The Crown’s creators see the interview as the keystone moment in series five. "To the writers, the stormy marriage between Charles and Di led up to her outpouring on Panorama, and the aftermath of that decision defined her final months. They are making a huge investment in that. "The Crown has a track record of delving into areas of the Royal Family's history they’d rather be left alone." The interview saw Diana telling Bashir that there were "three of us in this marriage", supposedly a dig at Camilla Parker Bowles and at the time was seen as the scoop of a generation. The interview went on to define Diana's final months before she passed away in 1997 but recently has seen intense scrutiny. Earlier this year a report by Lord Dyson found that Bashir had used "deceitful behaviour" as a way of obtaining the interview and getting Diana to agree to take part. So much so, Prince William has urged for the interview to never be aired again. "It effectively established a false narrative which, for over a quarter of a century, has been commercialised by the BBC and others,” William said after the report was published. "This Panorama programme holds no legitimacy and should never be aired again."
