A mum apologies to her husband for her body… his response is everything

"Your body is the one I fall in love with every day.”

Louise Carroll

Yep, this one’s going to pull on all the heartstrings.

We all have our flaws and there will always be certain things about our bodies that we won’t particularly like. But this mama was clearly feeling a bit down about her current physique. The one that brought her precious babies into the world.

Pregnancy, as many are all too aware, can make quite the number of changes to a woman’s body – think extra weight, scaring, varicose veins, sagging belly skin, a different vagina than before, stretch marks (some of us didn’t even need to get pregnant to develop these).

So, when the 30-year-old Australian mum, Laura Mazza, writer behind The Mum on the Run, shared her insecurities and the conversation she had with her husband – we were only thrilled.

Her honesty about the entire situation was spectacularly beautiful and we all know how difficult it can be to be so open and brave. What was particularly beautiful about it all, was hubby’s response to the woman he fell in love with.

She began by writing,

“This isn’t the body you fell in love with,” I said to him.’

She continues,

“The body he fell in love with fit into tight jeans, could walk into a shop and grab any size and walk out, knowing it fit.”

“I stood in front of him, exhausted and broken, the tears welled in my eyes.”

And wait for it…

“Then he said,”…you’re right. It isn’t the body I fell in love with. Instead it’s a body that grew our children, it fed our children, it comforted our children, it made life. Your body is the one I fall in love with every day.”

“I didn’t know what love was until I saw this body and found out all it could do, so thank you.”

EYES WATERING. It would bring a tear to a glass eye so it would.

The truly poignant response no doubt helped this beautiful mama in realising once more just how spectacular her body really is. It did after all carry two little humans into the world, providing their nourishment throughout pregnancy and beyond.

And to all you other mamas out there… your body is truly spectacular!
