Dad Charged After Twin Girls Die In Hot Car

Katie Mythen-Lynch

An investigation has been launched in Atlanta, Georgia after twin fifteen-month-old girls died in a hot car.

When paramedics arrived on the scene at a duplex in Carrollton, frantic neighbours had pulled the infants from the vehicle and were attempting to cool them in a nearby swimming pool using ice packs.

Despite the best efforts of medics who rushed them to the nearest hospital, Ariel Roxanne North and Alaynah Maryanne North did not survive. Autopsies are due to be carried out on the twins to determine their cause of death, but it is believed they may have suffered heat stroke.

According to local reports, the children’s father, Asa North (24) has been arrested and charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter and two counts of reckless conduct. An SUV belonging to North has also been impounded.

“We do believe they were left in the car for a period of time,” Capt. Chris Dobbs of the Carrollton Police Department said.

The children’s mother was reportedly out of town visiting a relative at the time of the incident.

So far this year, 24 children have died after being left in hot cars in the USA. Figures released by the organisation KidsAndCars show that 83 per cent of children that die this way are under three-years-old.
