Dangerous Rapist Seen Lurking Near Dublin Hospital

Staff at a Dublin hospital have been warned to be vigilant after a convicted rapist was spotted lurking in the grounds of the facility.

Trevor Byrne has been seen in the vicinity of the Mater Hospital, where he has attacked before, on a number of occasions recently, prompting management to advise staff on their safety.

The sex-offender was given a 15 year sentence for the rape of an 18-year-old woman in 1993 but was released in 2005, having served only 12 years. Within hours of being released from jail, Byrne attacked a Filipino nurse near the Mater Hospital and threatened to kill one of two men who came to the woman’s assistance.

He received a five year prison sentence for the attack. Four years later, just 14 hours after he was released from prison, Byrne attacked a French woman in Phibsboro after forcing his way into her home. He served just five years of an eight year sentence.

According to the Irish Independent, posters featuring a photograph of the sex attacker have now been placed in staff areas at the Mater Hospital. A statement from the hospital said: “A security advisory has been issued to all staff and the issue has been raised with the security team”.

It is believed that Byrne, who is originally from O’Devaney Gardens in Dublin’s north inner city, is currently living in a tent near Croke Park after efforts to rehouse him within the community failed. He has also been spotted near Dublin’s Heuston Station and frequently travels on the Luas.

On previous occasions, he has made trips to Belfast and Cork without informing the Gardaí of his plans.
