MyFitnessPal app users warned to change their passwords immediately

Millions of people who use the popular MyFitnessPal app have had their data stolen by hackers.

Around 150 million accounts were breached in what was one of the biggest cyber hacks in history. Sportswear company Under Amour, which owns the app, said that user names, email addresses and scrambled passwords were taken. However, users' credit card details, social security numbers and drivers' licences have not been compromised. Users are being urged to change their passwords immediately. Under Armour has confirmed that it is now working with data security firms and law enforcement to investigate the hack, which occurred in February. "We do not know the identity of the unauthorised party. Our investigation into this matter is ongoing. "We continue to monitor for suspicious activity and to coordinate with law enforcement authorities." The company didn't clarify how the hackers managed to break into its database and get out undetected. It was the biggest data breach of 2018 so far and one of the top five ever recorded, according to SecurityScorecard, an organisation that analyses companies' cybersecurity risk. The MyFitnessPal app allows users to track their calorie intake with their phone using a database of over two million foods and measure it against the exercise they do.
