Daughters of working Mums earn more as adults, say researchers

The daughters of working mothers grow up to be higher earners in more senior roles, according to a new study.

A survey that spanned 25 developed countries revealed that the female children of women who work tend to be better educated. Their grown-up sons also achieved career success but also spent more time looking after children and doing household chores.

The International Social Survey Program data was analysed by academics from the Harvard Business School and is due to be released tomorrow.

One of the more interesting findings included in the report is that 69 per cent of women who grew up with a working mother were employed, 22 per cent as supervisors in their place of work.

Of the women raised by stay-at-home moms, 66 per cent were working, with 18 per cent of those in senior roles.

The daughters of working mothers earned an average six per cent more.
