Doctor runs entire A&E department cradling baby while mum undergoes tests

"Sometimes all you need is a hug."

A doctor's heartwarming gesture for a mum who came into the A&E on her own has gone viral.   Dr. Muir Wallace was hailed a legend after he was pictured cradling an infant while his mum was brought in and needed tests. The photo, which was taken in the Waikato Hospital in New Zealand, was later shared to Facebook - where it soon went viral. The picture shows Dr. Wallace holding the little guy on his shoulder while working on two computers in the hospital's emergency department. A spokesperson for the hospital explained on Facebook that the baby had come in with his mum, who was unwell and needed some tests. https://www.facebook.com/WaikatoHospital/photos/a.346915758692772.94717.168646373186379/1848315391886127/?type=3 But as the youngster "badly needed a snooze", several people tried to settle him while the mum was in the process of being treated. The post explained:

"This is a bit different to my usual posts but felt I had to share. "The older of the two featured in this picture is Muir - one of our ED [Emergency Department] consultants. "The little guy was here with his mum and badly needed a snooze.Sadly his mum was unwell and needed some tests. "I believe several people tried but Muir was the only one able to settle him. "So for about an hour the other day our consultant in charge (of the entire ED) was most definitely multi-tasking. "Just an example of the small kindnesses that happen everyday that often go unnoticed."

The doctor won plenty of praise from social media users. One person wrote:

"This Dr is amazing. He looked after my son last night in kids place as he had a burnt face and needed anisthetic to make sure his eye was ok. "Such a funny Dr and keep me as ease with step by step of what was happening. "Thank you Dr for all the kind work you and your team do. You really all are so over worked and under appreciated. "So from me and my son we thank you."

Someone else added:

"You can tell he's an awesome man from that one act! "Thank you Muir for caring for 2 people that day above and beyond what you would have to do."

Another person commented:

"Nice to see and hugs do go a long way. Multi tasking seems too be our way of life these days."
