Have a puppy? Dogs Trust is looking for participants to take part in a study

Olivia Hayes

We all feel like we know our dogs well.

We know when they want a walk, when they need to pee, when they’re happy… but there comes a time when we haven’t a clue what’s actually going on with them – and that’s mainly when they’re sick.

They’re basically a member of the family so it pains us not to know when they’re unwell or what’s going on in their tiny heads.

That’s why Dogs Trust are recruiting Irish puppies ages 16 weeks or less to take part in a very important study.

The new research project called Generation Pup and will conducted by Dogs Trust and The University of Bristol. It’s going to be modelled on the ‘Children of the 90’s study’ which looked at child development, health and disease – so basically, they want to find out more about what’s going on inside our little pups.

Executive Director at Dogs Trust, Suzie Carley said:

“We are absolutely thrilled that Generation Pup is extending to puppy owners who live in the Republic of Ireland.

“This invaluable research will tell us so much more about our beloved canine companions, from behaviour issues to illness, and will give us a better understanding of the external factors that may dictate their entire lives.

“Not only will this study deliver vital insights on our dogs’ development from an early age but the results could pave the way for effective preventative measures to be put in place, or lead to new approaches for therapy or treatment for our dogs.”
