Dominos Pizza Now Delivering By Reindeer And Canoe (Just In Case You’re Desperate Like)

Alison Bough

Santa’s reindeer have got themselves a Christmas nixer this year. A Domino’s Pizza branch in Japan plans to deliver pizza by reindeer in preparation for expected snowy conditions.

As with the company’s ordinary delivery bikes, the reindeer will be equipped with a GPS driver-tracker device that can check the delivery status in real time. Training is now underway to ensure safe and reliable reindeer pizza delivery under the supervision of specialist breeders and handlers.

A first in the world of take-away food, the company have met some unique challenges as demonstrated in this video released by the pizza giant:

A statement from the company’s Japanese branch has revealed that they expect to be delivering via reindeer from the beginning of December.

It’s not the first time the brand has hit the headlines for their unusual delivery methods. Following recent extraordinary deliveries to a bus and a train, Domino’s in the UK is now also delivering via canoe to houses along the River Loose in Kent to ensure that local residents can get their pizzas right to their doors.

In an area famed for its waterways, a Domino’s Pizza ‘bouy’ (ahem) delivers to residents in a full wetsuit to ensure their food arrives safe and dry. To prevent any danger of a pizza drowning, the company says that the boxes’ floating ability have been thoroughly tested and, to be extra safe, pizzas are accompanied by a special pizza lifebuoy. Commenting on the news, Domino’s Loose Store Manager, IIona Paozalyte, said:

“We’re really excited to be the first store in the UK tasked with providing a river service. Being in an area that is famed for its scenic waterways means the rivers are a big part of the local community so we’re glad we can extend our standard delivery methods to harness the local scenery and ensure we can deliver by land or water to pizza lovers in the area.”

The new service proved to be a hit with locals as Debbie Hayes, the first person to order a pizza to their riverside home, boasted:

“It’s great living by the river but it has always been impossible to get food delivered to our house so we owe Domino’s a big thank you for allowing us to have a night in. I love a Pepperoni Passion pizza and I’m planning on having one every day of the week!”

Right. Well, who’s up for a margherita beside the Grand Canal? No? Reindeer a hawaiian to Finglas?
