Dublin City Council Are Allowing Apollo House To Be Demolished

Dublin City Council have given the green light to plans that will see the occupied Apollo House demolished in favour of a €50 million redevelopment plan. The proposed development includes offices, shops, and restaurants, but does not include any housing. The owners of Apollo House have stated that they are "worried about the health and safety" of the current sixty or so occupants. Key Home Sweet Home group activist and musician Glen Hansard tweeted his response to the 'concerns': “Home Sweet Home welcome the company’s concern for the health and safety of those sleeping in Apollo House. These residents were previously sleeping on streets and doorways. We invite the company to investigate the health and safety conditions of these streets and doorways, and get back to us with a comparative analysis.”

Glen Hansard will play a lunch-time gig outside Apollo House today (December 20th) at 1 pm to thank those who have supported the opening of the NAMA building. In a recent statement posted to their Facebook page the Home Sweet Home group said:

"It's very clear that this is a people's movement, so many people have given their time and energy to this freely, and that's why we're organising this gig at lunch time today - to say thank you to people in Ireland for their incredible generosity of spirit"
