Dublin Fire Brigade issue Christmas safety warning about Elf on the Shelf

Oh dear.

It was a close call.

We’re already two weeks into December.

Which means that for those of us with an elf in residence, it’s time to get creative with some Elf on the Shelf antics for the little ones to enjoy this year.

Santa’s little helper often ends up placed in funny and creative positions throughout the home – but sometimes they can be a bit dangerous.

Dublin Fire Brigade recently issued a safety warning about the beloved Christmas toy, after one of them nearly caught fire.

The DFB explained that the Christmas toy had been getting up to some elfish antics over the last few weeks, before she recently ended up on a lamp.

And while the fire department assured social media users that the home owner did the right thing, buying one of the decorations with the CE marking, they cautioned people to take care this holiday season.

They said on Facebook:

“Close call for this #ElfOnTheShelf after she ended up on a lamp.

“The owner had done the right thing & bought one with a CE mark. She resisted heat for 40 minutes. Keep all #Christmas decorations away from heat particularly over a fireplace.”

They later added a message urging people to double-check their smoke alarms at home over the festive season.
