Dublin Mum To Face Trial After Blowing €25k Lodged In Her Account

Katie Mythen-Lynch

We all dream that one day, for absolutely no reason whatsoever, a large some of money will miraculously appear in our bank account.

Dublin woman Margaret McDonnell may have thought that day had finally come when a whopping €25,000 showed up on the ATM screen, but the windfall, which turned out to be a bank mistake, has landed her in some very hot water.

According to the Irish Independent, the mother-of-two, from Finglas, is now accused of stealing the cash mistakenly lodged in her bank account by Bank of Ireland.

On discovering the mistake, McDonnell (25) is alleged to have gone on a two-week spending spree in March 2013, during which she blew more than €9,000 in Tierney & Co Gift Shop, making further stops at The Nike Store, Heatons, Tesco, Dunnes Stores and New Look.

It is also alleged that the single mum withdrew sums of cash of up to €5,000 from various ATMs, just some of the 40 counts of theft now leveled against her.

Ms McDonnell will appear before the circuit court in October.
