Durex condoms are buying a company that makes infant formula

Alison Bough

The Reckitt Benckiser Group who own Durex condoms have signed a merger agreement with the infant formula manufacturer Mead Johnson Nutrition Company.

The condom company say that their acquisition of Mead Johnson, who make the formula Enfamil, matches their focus on consumer health and on investing in ‘power brands’ with attractive financial prospects.

The company have released a statement on their merger, reassuring consumers on their long‐established scientific heritage,

“Reckitt Benckiser already reach millions of mothers through its hygiene education programmes and, through world class brands such as Nurofen and Mucinex, provides parents with relief and reassurance when their children are unwell. This will be enhanced by Mead Johnson’s deep understanding of a new mother’s journey and well established relationships with healthcare professionals.”

Enfamil is a brand leader in the global infant formula category and is said to be worth approximately forty-six billion dollars (around forty-three billion euro) in annual sales.

Well, it looks like Durex have the whole market covered.
