EastEnders actress Anna Karen killed in house fire

Heartbreaking news.

EastEnders actress Anna Karen has sadly died in a house fire.

The 85-year-old actress was killed after a horror fire broke out at her home on Windsor Road, Ilford last night.

Firefighters were called to the scene and managed to put the fire out, but sadly it was too late for the actress.

Karen was pronounced dead at the scene.

The actress was best known for her roles in both On The Buses and EastEnders.

She played Aunt Sal on the popular English soap.

The EastEnders crew has paid tribute since news of her harrowing death broke this afternoon.

Writing on Twitter, they said: “Anna Karen, who played Aunt Sal, has passed away.

An EastEnders spokesperson has said “We are deeply saddened to hear that Anna Karen has passed away… Our love and thoughts are with Anna’s family and friends.”

Cheryl Baker wrote, “I have just heard the awful news that my fabulous mate, #AnnaKaren has died in a house fire. What a horrific way to die, I can’t bear to think about it. I adored her – She was an absolute treasure, both on and off the screen.”

“I just heard the awful news about the wonderful Anna Karen. Horrific and awful and so so sad. She was one of the best. Sleep well lovely Anna. Sending all my love to her family and friends,” Rita Simons added.

Jake Wood added, “So sad to hear of the passing of Anna Karen. Loved working with her, so funny and full of character RIP.”

Anna Karen was married to actor and comedian Terry Duggan until he died in 2008. She was best friends with the late Barbara Windsor.

She has no children of her own but raised Duggan’s daughter Gloria from his previous marriage.
