Electric Ireland warns customers against scam email

We don't know about you but we get a LOT of junk into our emails, which is why it can be hard to distinguish between a proper one and a scam one. Today, Electric Ireland is warning their customers about an email claiming to be from the company. The email, which has been sent to a number of people already, tells customers to click a link in order to view a “Refund Notification.” It then requests that customers scan a copy of their passport and provide their bank details. Electric Ireland said in a statement  on their website that this is “a phishing email attempting to obtain customers debit card details.”

It added: “This email was not sent by Electric Ireland and we are advising those who received this email not to click on the link or reply to the email.” Customers who have already completed the form are advised to contact their bank immediately and change the password on their Online Billing Account. The energy provider ensured customers that their personal details have not been compromised and said that the matter is being investigated. It has also been reported to the Gardaí.
