5 must-watch series to binge right now

Laura Cunningham

Can we take a moment for how amazing TV is right now?

We’re spoiled with so many amazing series to binge on. 90s us, with the two TV stations, would lose their minds if they knew how good they were going to have it in years to come.

Here are five series we devoured in the last few weeks — and you should too.

What’s on your latest binge list?

1. Anatomy of a Scandal

Where: Netflix

What: A British miniseries with six 45-minute episodes

Starring: Sienna Milller, Rupert Friend, Michelle Dockery

Anatomy of a Scandal is a gripping tale of seemingly perfect lives torn asunder by buried secrets. A perfect couple with a perfect life sees everything change overnight after and indiscretion comes to light, bringing with it a whole host of chaos, crime and lies. The performances are excellent and the twists are plenty. This one’s not to be missed.

2 Heartstopper

Where: Netflix

What: Eight half-hour episodes in this first season

Starring: Kit Connor, Joe Locke, William Gao

A truly gorgeous and uplifting LGBTQ+ drama about teen friendships, adolescence, coming of age and love. Cast with a talented group of gay, lesbian, bi and trans teens, it reflects the transformed social values of the current generation and we’re already looking forward to another series.

3. Severance

Where: Apple TV

What: Nine 40 to 60-minute episodes in season one

Starring: Adam Scott, Britt Lower, Patricia Arquette

This psychological, sci-fi thriller follows Mark S, a recently-bereaved employee of Lumon Industries who decides to undergo their “severance” procedure. His work memories and non-work memories are now separated forever, meaning he effectively becomes two people, and never the twain shall meet. Directed by Ben Stiller, this is a brilliant piece of television that will suck you in from the first episode. Stars out of five? Six.

4. Liar

Where: Netflix

What: Six 45-minute episodes in Seasons 1 and 2.

Starring: Downton fave, Joanne Froggatt, Loan Gruffudd, Zoe Tapper

A recently heartbroken teacher decides to go on a date with one of her pupil’s fathers. Afterwards, she accuses him of assault but the police don’t believe her, so she takes matters into her own hands. You’ll swallow a series whole in a couple of days if you have the time.

5. Pieces of her

Where: Netflix

What: Eight hour-long episodes in Season 1

Starring: Toni Colette, Bella Heathcote, Jessica Barden

A mother and daughter duo get aught up in a shooting at a local restaurant and quickly become the center of a media frenzy. The attention brings people from their past out of the woodwork, revealing the shocking truth about their history. This is a slow burner, but worth the investment.

Bridgerton is already renewed for season 3 – and here is what we know
