Amy Dowden has opened up about starting a family
Strictly Come Dancing star Amy Dowden has revealed her hopes to have a family of her own after she was diagnosed with cancer in 2023.
Amy was diagnosed with stage three breast cancer in 2023 but has since been told that there is “no evidence of disease.”
She stepped down from her role on Strictly Come Dancing and underwent a mastectomy and chemotherapy.
Amy returned to the series this year but was forced to leave the competition early due to an injury.
The dancer is now focusing on her personal goals and has revealed she would love to become a mum.
Speaking on the What If? podcast, Amy said: “We would love a family, and we’ve got embryos, because, obviously, I’ve got a hormone-fed cancer, so I was put into menopause, which happened the day I started chemo.”
“So, in a couple of years, when they feel it’s safe, hopefully, we’ll have the opportunity. And if not, there’s still lots of other opportunities, which we have spoken about.”
She added, “Hopefully in years to come we’ll be lucky enough to become parents too, but (we’re) taking every day as it comes.”
The dancer is married to fellow professional dancer Ben Jones.
The couple have been together since 2011 but kept their romance a secret for six years.
Ben popped the question in 2017 and they married in South Wales in 2022.
