Reality star Charlotte Dawson has been praised for opening up about the pressure on new mums to bounce back.
It's been an expectation placed on new mums for far too long, but one that still lingers in society.
Giving birth is something you cannot bounce back from. Your body will go through some of the most overwhelming changes you'll ever experience in life, but people still think women should bounce back weeks after their bodies have gone through extreme change and trauma.
Charlotte Dawson said many people have slated her online for not losing weight in the four months since her daughter's birth.
Alongside a video of the mum and her daughter, Charlotte told the trolls to leave her alone and to stop pressuring women to lose weight after birth.
The fact that people are so focused on the size of a woman's jeans when she's just given birth says a lot about how much society values commercial attractiveness over mental health.
Charlotte's followers praised her for being so honest about this pressure and for reminding people about how cruel it is to put this pressure on women.
One of her followers wrote, "If people actually read how long it takes to physically heal and for your hormones to settle, they would not say half of this. Thanks as always for the realness!! More of this please."
Charlotte has helped remind society that there are far more important things to focus on than what a new mum looks like.
They're busy caring for a newborn, trying to adjust to a brand new chapter of their life; the size of their clothes is the last thing anyone should be worried about.
