A source says the teen simply “didn’t want to follow” the rules that any parent would set.
Denise Richards is reportedly “saddened” by her eldest daughter’s claims of living in an “abusive” household.
The actor’s 17-year-old daughter Sami claimed in TikTok videos uploaded last week that she had moved out of Denise’s home and in with her dad, Charlie Sheen, from whom Denise is divorced.
The teen complained about feeling “trapped” at her mam’s “hell house” in the videos, which have since been made private.
Captioning a video of her looking upset, she wrote: “1 year ago today: trapped in an abusive household, hated myself, would go days without eating or sleeping, insanely depressed, hated school, etc…”
Sami then shared a video of herself looking much happier, writing: “Now: finally moved out of the hell house, had a spiritual awakening, own 2 cats, happily single, full of self love, and dropped out of high school :)”
A source told PEOPLE that Sami’s exit from the home was down to the fact that the actress “set normal rules that any parent would be setting,” but the teen didn’t want to follow them.
“She’s a mom and a parent and there are rules. [Sami] didn’t want to follow the rules,” the source said, adding, “Charlie didn’t support implementing Denise’s rules. He has a different way of parenting and Sami decided to live with her dad.
“Denise loves her daughter very much and she’s saddened by the situation.”
Meanwhile, Charlie, 56, said through his publicist: “Sam is amazing. I love her and all my children unconditionally. We’re having a ball. GED here we come.”
The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star also shares 16-year-old daughter Lola Rose with ex-husband Charlie. She is also mam to daughter Eloise Joni, 10.
In 2019, Richards told PEOPLE that she’s a “strict parent.” She previously admitted to installing security cameras outside her house to prevent her daughters from sneaking out to meet boys.
“I definitely have rules and boundaries, and there’s consequences,” she said at the time, adding that she doesn’t let the girls “do whatever they want.”
