Emmerdale actress Malandra Burrows has been diagnosed with breast cancer.
The actress confirmed the devastating news in an interview with OK! but stressed that she is remaining positive.
She is best known for playing Kathy Glover in Emmerdale.
The 56-year-old actress confirmed she was diagnosed in February of this year.
Doctors discovered a stage three tumour in the Emmerdale star’s left breast.
However, she is remaining hopeful.
The English actress explained that she has gone into “combat mode”. She said she is willing to do everything she can to get through the diagnosis.
She told OK! “I hate to say it, but when it’s your life at stake you’re prepared to do everything to get through. That’s helped me focus.”
The actress explained that her cancer may have been caused by menopause.
Doctors explained to her that menopausal cancer is caused by estrogen and hormonal balance issues.
“It’s one of the most major causes of breast cancer,” she revealed.
“I’ve got to be brave,” she added.
The actress stressed that women should go for their routine mammograms. She said it could save your life in the long run.
She encouraged women to always visit their doctor if they’re concerned about something, even if they think it is nothing serious.
“No matter what age you are, if something seems suspicious go to your GP. You won’t regret it. It’s half a day of your life to save your life.
The Emmerdale star will undergo chemotherapy for the next six months.
There is also a possibility that she will need to have a mastectomy.
But despite it all, the actress is remaining positive.
“When you see what’s happening in Ukraine, I just think I’m really lucky and all the treatment I’m getting, whether I love it or hate it, is there to save my life.”
