Ahead of the Earthshot Prize awards in Cape Town, Prince William shared an update on Princess Kate’s health, describing her as “amazing”
When asked about her progress, he said: “She’s doing really well, thanks. Hopefully, she’s watching tonight and cheering me on.”
The Prince added: “She’s been amazing this whole year, and I know she’ll be really keen to see tonight be a success.”
Princess Kate, who announced earlier in the year that she was undergoing preventative chemotherapy after discovering pre-cancerous cells, completed her treatment in September.
Following her treatment, she said that her focus is now on “staying cancer-free.”
Throughout this journey, Prince William has continued with his public duties, but he had remained private about his wife’s diagnosis until now.
As he prepared for the Earthshot Awards – a global environmental prize he founded in 2021 – Prince William spoke about his hopes for the evening and the urgency of climate action.
The Earthshot Prize was created to bring positive momentum to the climate crisis discussion, encouraging global-scale solutions that can bring measurable impact.
During his time in Cape Town, he was spotted wearing a bracelet with the word “papa” on it – a gift from his daughter, Princess Charlotte.
Smiling, he explained: “This is a relic from a Taylor Swift concert. My daughter decided she wanted to create a bracelet for me, and she gave it to me when I came away. I promised her that I’d wear it and try not to lose it while I was out here.”
The Prince also spoke about involving his three children in his environmental work, encouraging them to understand and contribute to sustainable habits at home.
“Every family tries to do what they can to help with the environment. We go through the basics of recycling, minimising water use, turning lights off when we leave the house.
“We’re sensible with what we do around the environment,” he said. “I think every family has those conversations.”
