Rebel Wilson speaks out after being “mum-shamed”

“I think it was only a week until I got mum-shamed.”

Rebel Wilson has said that she was “shocked” after being mum-shamed shortly after the birth of her daughter.

Rebel and her partner Ramona Agruma welcomed their first child, a baby girl last year via surrogacy. They named her Royce Lillian.

Now, months after the birth, Rebel spoke about the first time she was criticised as a mother.

On the Life Uncut podcast, Rebel told hosts Brittany Hockley and Laura Byrne that she was shamed for going out after Royce was born.

“I think it was only a week until I got mum-shamed,” she said.

Rebel also pointed to the double standard, and said that famous dads are not treated with the same level of scrutiny.

“I was shocked at the criticism because Chris Hemsworth goes to the gym, and people aren’t yelling, ‘Where’s your kids?’

“But why do they do it to every woman?”

Rebel then reflected on motherhood, and how it’s important for mothers to not lose sight of their own identity.

“Just because you become a mother, doesn’t mean that you lose your identity as a person,” she said. “It doesn’t mean you can’t go out with friends, or you can’t go on a holiday. It doesn’t mean you can’t have a career.”

She then asked: “Why is it women shaming other women?”

In November, Rebel told her fans that she had welcomed a baby girl via an Instagram post.

At the time, she wrote: “I can’t even describe the love I have for her, she’s a beautiful miracle.

“I am forever grateful to everyone who has been involved, (you know who you are), this has been years in the making…but particularly wanted to thank my gorgeous surrogate who carried her and birthed her with such grace and care.”
