RTE’s Sinead Kennedy, 40, presented her final ‘Today’ show until next year as she heads away on maternity leave.

The presenter is currently pregnant with her second child with her husband Conor Kirwan, and she is due to give birth this month.

Her partner lives and works as a naval officer for the European Defence Agency in Brussels, Belgium.

The Cork native is planning to join her husband in the New Year  by moving over with their firstborn daughter Indie and new baby.

However, her work-husband Daithí Ó Sé took the chance to express how much he would miss his co-host.

“Today’s Friday. It’s your last day but I don’t want to get upset.”

The Irish presenters gave each other a hug at the end of the show, with Daithí saying, “Well I’m going to miss you. We all love you so much on this show.”

Sinead responded: “Likewise. See you next year.”

Taking to her Instagram, the mum-to-be penned a post of gratitude for her colleagues and viewers as she steps away from the role for the next year.

“The last hurrah… for a little while anyway. What a lovely way to leave things for now doing a full shift, the whole week, on @rtetoday with my fav @daithiose… you’re a dream to work with and you know I’ll miss the craic for the next while.

“Where does the time go? This is already my 4th season on the show! It’s mad. I love working on it, no day is the same; the guests, regular contributors and viewers are fab and the team are a joy.

Having worked in the industry for two decades, Sinead says she still enjoys her job as much now as she did starting.

“The old adage is true, do something you love and you never work a day in your life. I’ve been working in TV 20 years now, have gained so much experience and met the most incredible people.

“I’m very grateful for all of it… but I’m off to live another dream and add to our little family and there simply are no words for how happy and thankful I feel to be able to say that.”

Best of luck to Sinead and her growing family.
