A five-year-old girl was killed after cops said she was hit by an unoccupied SUV near a school in Toronto.

Emergency services rushed to the scene after reports of a collision on Monday afternoon.

According to Global News, Sgt Duncan Miller told reporters that the girl, identified locally as Camila de Almeida Torcato, had been being put into a different car by her father when the incident occurred.

He said:

“The [SUV] was parked further down [the road] and for a reason we don’t know right now, it was unoccupied and the gear engaged.”

The girl was rushed to the Hospital for Sick Children, where she tragically passed away from her injuries on Monday evening.

According to CTV News, the girl’s dad, who was also hit by the SUV, was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

A makeshift memorial was soon set up outside of the school, with flowers and teddy bears being laid in tribute.

A family friend set up an online fundraiser to help support Camila’s family.

The GoFundMe reads:

“Unfortunately God has taken Camila from us.

“Having fought off cancer at 3 and yet again facing a tragic accident at 5,the only thing that we can believe is that she was a true angel.

“The people who really suffer from these type of events are the parents who have to live on without their child and they deserve all the support that they can get so they can find peace, without the financial stress that our society can create.”
