Five-year-old Irish boy in intensive care following hit-and-run in Spain

A five-year-old Irish boy has been injured in a hit-and-run in Spain.

The boy is currently in intensive care in hospital after being hit by a car on a zebra crossing in Salou, north of Tarragona.

The incident occurred on Monday night.

The Irish Mirror reports that the driver was drunk when he hit the young boy. Local authorities have said that he was three times over the limit.

The man was later arrested after failing a breathalyser test at a local police station.

The boy’s injuries are said to be serious but his life is not thought to be in danger.

He was staying in a campsite with his family when the incident occurred.
