When I was five, I could do lots of cool things - stand on my head, eat an ice-cream backwards and annoy my brothers brilliantly.
But little Edith just showed us how to spell like a boss.
She just out-spelled more than 50 competitors, some who were teens. And she just won BIG in a huge spelling bee in the US.
And we all know how crazy those yanks get over those spelling bees.
Curious about the word that catapulted her to winnerdom? (Edith, is that even a word?)
Well, she correctly spelt Jnana.
Jnana.
Google tells us that it means knowledge in Hinduism.
What's more - she spelt 37 words correctly, spending five hours giving the correct letter sequences for words such as sevruga (caviar) Nisei (offspring of Japanese immigrants born in the US) and alim (a Muslim scholar)
Natch.
And she only started last year.
Her mum, Annie told the Tulsa World Newspaper that Edith had a great time practising:
“Learning the words was so educational. She was able to learn about different countries and cultures and different kinds of food.”
The next step is a major competition in Maryland.
We wish this little spelling genius all the best of knowledge in the world
(and in Jnana)
