Fair play to them, like.

Frances and Patrick Connolly have been named as the Co Armagh winners of the €130 million EuroMillions jackpot.

The staggering sum of money (€129,645,665, to be exact) was won by the Connollys on New Year’s Day after the pair matched five numbers and two lucky stars correctly.

They went public with their winnings and received their novelty cheque at a special ceremony in Belfast this morning.

RTE reports that when the couple, who are in their 50s, discovered that they had won, they had “a cup of tea and a hug.”

Mrs Connolly said that the money will “… (give) us the chance to really make a difference for our family and friends.”

“This is a massive sum of money and we want it to have a huge impact on the lives of other people we know and love as well as on our future too.

“I always hoped we would win the lottery one day, but when we did, it would be just our luck that lots of others would win on the same day with the same numbers too – never in my wildest dreams did I think we would ever win almost £115 million.”

Draw operator Camelot said that the pair came forward with their winning ticket on Wednesday. Their prize will be issued once their ticket is validated.

Frances and Patrick have become the fourth biggest lottery winners in UK history.

The winning EuroMillions numbers were 1, 8, 11, 25, 28 and the winning EuroMillions Lucky Star numbers were 4 and 6.
