From Monday, same-sex couples can get married

HerFamily

From Monday (November 16th) same sex couples will be able to get married.

That’s right, the Minister for Justice and Equality Frances Fitzgerald has signed the commencement order for the Marriage Act 2015.

It means that same sex couples who have already given notice for a civil partnership can get married instead.

Those who have been married abroad will also now have their marriage recognised in Ireland.

As for those who have civil partnerships, these won’t automatically be recognised as marriage. In the cases where the couple decides to marry, their civil partnership will be dissolved.

It comes six months after 62% of the Irish nation voted in favour of same-sex marriage.

All this talk of marriage makes us want to go to a wedding… without the cost and hassle of course!
