Almost €7,000 has been raised in the memory of a Dublin woman who died just a week after giving birth.
Karen McEvoy, originally from Tallaght but living in Blessington in County Kildare, passed away on Christmas Day of suspected sepsis.
Karen and her partner Barry Kelly had given birth to a baby girl named Ruby a week before at Dublin’s Coombe Maternity Hospital.
She was also mum to two boys; four-year-old Jake and two-year-old Toby.
A Go Fund Me page was set up by friends of the 24-year-old to help support Barry and the three children through this time.
“Karen brought immense joy to our lives and to the lives of everyone who knew her,” the page reads.
“We all loved her deeply and will miss her more than words can say. We are devastated by her loss.”
The friends wrote that the donations would give the family space to grieve.
“We are looking for funds to allow Barry to take time off work and relieve him of any financial stresses at this most difficult time.
“Having money to access the resources and small comforts they need over the next while will be extremely helpful to them and allow them to focus on the enormity of the loss without adding financial worries.”
At the time of writing, €6,970 had been raised, exceeding the €5,000 target set by almost €2,000.
