A woman in Galway has died after being attacked by two dogs, RTÉ has reported.

The woman, who is believed to have been in her 60s, died from her injuries after two bullmastiffs attacked her while she was visiting a relative.

The incident happened between Spiddal and Moycullen in Galway.

The woman’s name has not been made public, and a post-mortem examination is currently taking place at Galway University Hospital.

The Irish Times has reported that the woman was already dead by the time emergency services arrived at the scene.

RTÉ also reports: “Emergency services were called to the scene but were unable to save the woman due to the extent of the injuries she sustained.”

*An earlier version of this story stated that the dogs were bull terriers rather than bullmastiffs. This initial reporting was based on provisional information relayed by RTÉ.
