Gardaí investigating after body believed to be of newborn baby found on Dublin beach

An investigation has been launched after the body of what appears to be a newborn baby was discovered on a beach in Dublin.

A spokesperson for the gardaí said that the discovery of the baby, whose sex is unknown at this point, was made just before 10am this morning on a beach at Balbriggan Co. Dublin.

The scene is currently sealed off and a technical examination of the area has begun.

The spokesperson said that gardaí have concerns for the wellbeing of the child’s mum and are urging her to come forward.

They are also appealing to anyone else with information to contact Balbriggan Garda Station on 01 8020510.

The full statement said:

“Gardaí are investigating the discovery of the body of what appears to be a newborn baby (sex unknown at this point) on a beach at Balbriggan Co. Dublin.

“The discovery was made shortly before 10am on Saturday 15th December 2018. The scene is currently sealed off and a technical examination of the area has begun.

“Gardaí have concerns about the wellbeing of the child’s mother and are asking her to come forward. Gardaí are also appealing to anyone else with information to contact Balbriggan Garda Station on 01 8020510.”
