Gardaí in Dublin have launched an investigation following an attempted kidnapping in Dublin 4.

A young boy was walking home from school with his sister and grandmother when the incident happened on December 12th.

His grandmother stopped to tie his sister’s shoelace, but the boy walked ahead of them.

As he was walking towards his home, a man in a van reportedly approached him.

He told the young boy to get into his van, but luckily he ran away and was not harmed physically.

Gardaí told The Independent;

“Gardaí in Donnybrook are investigating an alleged incident of an approach to a child that occurred on Bath Avenue, Dublin 4 on Monday, December 12, 2022 at approximately 3pm,” said a statement from gardaí.

Speaking to HerFamily, the boy’s mother said they’re incredibly shaken after the incident.

“We can become naive and think our kids are safe outside our door, walking home from school, playing with friends, etc, but we can’t!”

She told parents not to take their eyes off the ball for one second.

The boy’s mum is naturally feeling shaken but is grateful her son is safe.

“I am not the better of it but so thankful that he is okay. I can’t stop thinking about what could have been.”

“He was four doors down from my house” she added.

“Please make sure your kids know to not speak to anyone.. run, scream, shout! Do whatever it takes.”

The investigation continues.
