Kat O'Connor

An investigation is currently underway.

Gardaí in Co. Sligo are investigating numerous sexual assaults.

Multiple teenage girls were reportedly assaulted between 8 pm and 10 pm on January 22nd.

The girls were out socialising in Sligo when the attacks took place.

A house and a section of GAA grounds have been sealed off as the investigation continues.

Gardaí have asked witnesses in the Ballydoogan, Oakfield, and Maugheraboy areas to come forward.

They’re also eager to talk to a taxi driver who may have taken a fare from Sligo to Manorhamilton.

Specialist Garda child interviewers are taking part in the investigation because of the ages of the victims.

Gardaí investigating the assaults issued a statement:

“Gardaí are appealing for witnesses in relation to a number of alleged assaults that occurred near Sligo Town yesterday evening, Saturday, 22nd, January 2022.

They’re keen to speak to anyone who noticed any activity which caught their attention.

Witnesses should come forward “whether they think it may be of relevance or not”.

Road users may also have dash-cam footage that could help with the investigation.

They are also appealing to taxi drivers who were working at the time.

Witnesses should call Sligo Garda Station on 071 915700. You can also contact the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any other Garda station.
