Gavin and Stacey‘s Ruth Jones has hinted at more episodes after that Christmas cliffhanger.
The highly-anticipated Christmas special aired last night, leaving viewers stunned when it ended with Nessa popping the question to Smithy.
And, in good news for fans of the series, Jones told The Sun that there was “room for more” episodes following the Christmas Day special.
“It is so complicated for me and James to get together to write,” she said. “I do say never say never, as while we did make it work that was after three years of trying to find time when we could sit down and write it. Obviously with the way it ends, there is room for more.”
“It’s a shame we didn’t have more time when we were writing so we could have written more, then have it all ready to go,” she continued. “But it was such a challenge to get that special filmed.”
The 2019 Christmas Day special was the first new Gavin And Stacey episode since 2010. It caught up with the characters a decade on, much to fans’ delight – and surprise.
The final moments of the episode saw Jones’ Nessa confess her love for Smithy, played by James Corden, before proposing to him.
And the actress added that she hoped viewers enjoyed the return to the series.
“I think just enjoy this special, and then we will see what the next few years bring,” Jones added.
