Gintern Wanted! Wanna Earn £20K A Year To Travel Europe Drinking Gin?

Alison Bough

A drinks company in the UK is advertising what could possibly be the best job in the world, as they search for a ‘gintern’ to get paid £20,000 a year to travel Europe drinking gin.

The company, with the self-explanatory name ILoveGin, started advertising the position last August but have yet to fill the enviable role. They told the Bristol Post newspaper that they have been flooded with around 4,000 applications:

“The Gintern will get to travel around the UK and parts of Europe discovering new gins to work with and, of course, sampling them. We’re looking for an enthusiastic gin-loving intern who will be happy to spend their days trying new gins, new mixers, finding new brands to work with, visiting distilleries, pairing gins and ‘ginspiring’ us with their new-found knowledge.”

The brand said that due to the overwhelming interest they were not expecting to get through all the applications they have received before Christmas:

“We’re looking to re-start the (vetting) process and hire someone in early 2017”

The right candidate can even work from home (I’m using the term ‘work’ lightly here) but will need to travel regularly. Oh my, the hardship. If you’re already rummaging in the attic for your big suitcase, you must also be over 18 years of age, hold a driving license, be friendly, enthusiastic and sociable, and know a good G&T when you taste one.

The remuneration package sounds more like a Carlsberg advert to be honest. The lucky worker will get a £20k sterling salary, lots of free gin, the opportunity to travel Europe, and a free box of gin and tonic every month.

Excuse me while I update my CV.
