Gordon Ramsay says he makes his kids fly economy while he’s in first class, to keep them ‘grounded’

"I mean, what 14-year-old needs to sit in a reclining chair?"

He says that it is to keep his children "seriously grounded and motivated."

"When it comes to holidays, I told them, 'Don’t you dare waste that f***ing money flying first class from here to New York. We all f***ing take off together, we all land together. Think what else [you can] do with money,'" the celebrity chef told The Sun.

"When they ask if they can pop up to us for some nice food, we say, 'No you f***ing can’t', so now they take their own picnics on board, and they’re absolutely fine in economy," he continued. "I mean, what 14-year-old needs to sit in a reclining chair?"

"It’s so important to [my wife] Tana and I that they stay seriously grounded and motivated."

Gordon Ramsay and his wife have five children, between the ages of one and 22.

The Hell's Kitchen star is set to make his first move out of just food-based television, by hosting the BBC One quiz show Bank Balance which starts this Wednesday.

Ramsay also revealed that he had recently come off crutches after undergoing meniscus surgery.

"I did it running up that hill in Richmond Park, bolting up it," he told The Sun. "And when I got the x-rays back, the doctor said, 'You've got arthritis in your knee'. I'd never heard that word in relation to me before."

"He told me I needed to start slowing down. It was a case of 'imagine you’ve got 1.5million steps to run over the next 30 years… pace yourself'."

"I am slightly scared of stopping but do know I will have to slow down at some stage."
