Heartless Motorists ‘Drove Around’ Dying Boy

Katie Mythen-Lynch

Police in the United States have blasted motorists who refused to stop and help after an 11-year-old boy was fatally injured in a hit-and-run.

Maurice Richards, from St. Louis, Missouri, lay on the road just one block from his home for several minutes as drivers steered their cars around his body and continued on their way.

The child’s grandmother said his clothes were ‘drenched’ in the rain before emergency services reached the scene.

Maurice’s devastated mother Erica Steele slammed heartless commuters for ignoring her injured son:

‘It’s a main street in East St. Louis, there’s lots of cars that come so I don’t know why they kept driving by my baby,’ she told the Daily News.

‘For other cars to keep going…Lord have mercy, there’s no way, the street is so busy, in three seconds you see 10, 20 cars.’

The child passed away one hour after he reached the Cardinal Glennon Hospital in St. Louis. Detectives have appealed for witnesses but there are no suspects in custody.
