Strong winds and flooding as Storm Brian hits

Storm Brian has hit and already, strong winds and flooding have caused significant damage in parts of the south and south-west of the country.

Limerick city has been affected after the River Shannon overflowed. According to RTÉ there are no reports yet of homes being flooded, however the road at O’Callaghan Strand has been particulary affected.

There have been reports of flooding in other south and west coastal areas with certain roads being flooded. Road users have been asked to drive with caution as roads can be exceptionally slippery due to surface water during this kind of weather.

A status Orange warning remains in place for a number of Atlantic coastal counties until 10pm while the rest of the country receives a Status Yellow with wind speeds reaching up to 110km/h.
