You can start planning your time off for the rest of the year

January is here and to beat the blues, just keep in mind that there isn’t long to go until the next Bank Holiday.

St Brigid’s Day falls on Sunday, February 1, and so Monday, February 2, will mark the second of 10 Bank Holidays in Ireland in 2026 – after New Year’s Day.

Ireland still has some way to go to match other European countries for public holidays – such as Italy (12) and Portugal (13).

Yet, no one is complaining about having an extra day off work.

Here is the full list of Bank Holidays in the Republic of Ireland for the rest of 2026 so you can start planning your time off.

(At the time of writing, New Year’s Day has already been observed).

What are the Bank Holiday Days in 2026 for Ireland?

Here is the full list of Bank Holiday Days in Ireland in 2026:

  • New Year’s Day – Thursday, January 1.
  • St Brigid’s Day – Sunday, February 1. (The Bank Holiday will be observed on Monday, February 2).
  • St Patrick’s Day – Tuesday, March 17.
  • Easter Monday – Monday, April 6.
  • May Day – Monday, May 4.

Good Friday falls on Friday, April 3, but it is not a public holiday. As such, people have no automatic entitlement to have a day off work.

However, some schools and businesses do close on that day.

Seeing as St Stephen’s Day falls on a Saturday, workers will be entitled to a substitute benefit.

Citizens Information says: “If the public holiday falls on a day which is not a normal working day for that business (for example, on Saturday or Sunday), you are still entitled to benefit for that public holiday. However, you do not have any automatic legal entitlement to have the next working day off work.”
