We’d given up hope of an Irish winner when news emerged that the incredible €190m Euromillions jackpot was actually won in Spain.

However, it has since been specified that the winning ticket was purchased in the Canaries – a holiday spot incredibly popular with Irish holiday-makers.

Indeed, some 400,000 Irish visitors a YEAR head over to the Spanish islands for a sunny time-out.

Furthermore, a load of Irish folk have relocated there permanently and are residents.

The lucky ticket was sold at El Mirador Shopping Centre in Las Palmas in Gran Canaria.

The massive prize had been accumulating after no player matched five numbers and two lucky stars in the twice-weekly draws since the start of September.

The winning numbers were 01, 09, 15, 19 and 25, while the Lucky Stars were 01 and 07.

And even if the winner has no ties to Ireland, thousands of Irish people won sums between €4 and… €27,911 in the main draw, which took place on Friday.

Even better – there was a jackpot winner in the Plus draw, which saw one lucky winner scoop up an amazing €500,000.

The winning numbers for the Euromillions Plus draw were 3, 22, 36, 38, 45.

The National Lottery has already confirmed that that half a million ticket was bought at Barry’s Mace store in Blackwater, Ardnacrusha in Co Clare.

The shop’s owner, Lance O’Neill, said: “It’s a small village and it would be lovely if it was somebody local who has won.”

He added: “But it could also have been anybody driving through going to East Clare.”
