16-year-old boy appears in court following murder of teenage girl

Holly Newton died in hospital.

A 16-year-old boy has appeared in court following the death of a young girl in England.

15-year-old Holly Newton was stabbed in Northumberland, England on Friday evening.

The young girl was rushed to hospital following the stabbing in Hexham but was sadly pronounced dead in hospital.

A teenage boy has been charged with her murder, but cannot be named due to his age.

Another boy, believed to be aged 15, was also injured in the attack.

He remains in hospital.

Northumbria Police issued a statement following the death of Holly Newton.

“Emergency services attended where they found the boy and girl aged 16 and 15 had suffered serious injuries consistent with having been caused by a bladed article.

“They were both taken to hospital where sadly, despite the best efforts of hospital staff, the girl passed away.”

“Both families continue to be supported by specially trained officers at this devastating time.”

Officers confirmed the injured boy is in a stable condition.

“Another boy aged 16 was arrested on suspicion of assault and later on suspicion of murder.

The boy has been charged with murder and attempted murder.

He has also been charged with possession of offensive weapon.

Police continued, “Our thoughts are with both families as we continue to support them at this tragic time.”

“We believe those involved are known to each other,” they added.

The boy will appear in court later today, January 30th.
