Hundreds of people are missing and many are feared dead after a hydropower dam collapsed in Laos.
The dam released five billion litres of water into the San Sai district of Attapeu on Tuesday, leaving at least 100 people missing and "several human lives claimed."
ABC Laos reported that the water levels were rising in the district but did not provide any more information.
Reuters reports that environmental groups have criticised Laos's desire for hydropower in the past, claiming that the dam would negatively impact the communities living along the Mekong River.
The dam was being built by the Xe Pian-Xe Namnoy Power Company.
