The incredibly Irish purchase this boy made with his communion money

Orlaith Condon

Can you remember what you received for your first communion?

Well, it more than likely wasn’t anywhere near what kids take home these days.

With most children getting a three figure sum from their big day, many of them go on to spend their new-found fortune on a new game console or the latest ‘must-have’ gadget – except Ewan Hanny.

The Wicklow schoolboy decided to invest his money in his future and used his savings to buy… a cow.

Yes, putting his €900 to good use, Ewan bought himself his first cow which he keeps on his uncle’s farm.

Describing his new friend Abigail as “quiet and tough”, animal enthusiast Ewan plans to buy more cows in the future.

“I’m thinking of getting 30 cows. It’s a good way to spend my communion money,” he told RTE’s Countrywide.
