The bodies were discovered in February of this year.
An autopsy result has revealed the death of a toddler in the US earlier this year was caused by starvation and dehydration after his mother overdosed.
The bodies of Tiffany Spears, 32, and her 15-month-old son, Nicholas Crowder, were discovered in February at their home in Portland, Tennessee.
Officers
reportedly responded to the scene after a probation officer making a home visit "observed an obvious medical emergency."
When the probation officer visited the unresponsive home, she looked in the window to find Spears' 3-year-old daughter running around as she lay motionless on the ground.
Responding officers found Spears' body, who had been dead for several days, with no evidence of trauma. The body of her infant son was found strapped in his car seat on the floor in one of the home's bedrooms.
It appeared his 3-year-old sister tried to take care of him for several days, as according to the autopsy, food including eggshells and dried eggs were found in and around the car seat. Though the infant tragically died, the 3-year-old survived and was taken to hospital as a precautionary measure.
The autopsy findings list Spears' cause of death to be combined drug toxicity from methamphetamine and fentanyl. Both deaths were ruled accidental in nature.
