Ireland AM chef Joe Shannon diagnosed with terminal cancer

Ireland AM chef Joe Shannon has revealed he has been diagnosed with terminal cancer.

The chef confirmed the heartbreaking news on the show this morning.

He was diagnosed with stage three bowel cancer in March 2021, but doctors confirmed his cancer is now terminal.

He explained to hosts Alan Hughes and Muireann O’Connell that he wasn’t scared when he found out he had bowel cancer because so many people have survived it.

However, the TV chef was later diagnosed with cancer in his liver. Doctors operated on and treated the TV chef, but his bowel cancer returned just months after he was given the all-clear.

“They ideally would’ve liked to do surgery and chemotherapy to take the tumour out, but because of all the complications I had previously, surgery was ruled out.”

Instead, Joe underwent six “heavy sessions of chemotherapy” which finished last February.

He shared, “I’ve been very lucky in life, I’m 58 years of age and have had a fantastic life. Life owes me nothing. It could be one year, it could be seven years.”
