The Irish Cancer Society has announced the return of the highly anticipated Colour Dash

It’s set to be the most vibrant event on this year’s calendar and is scheduled for Sunday, June 30th at 9:30 am.

The 5K fun run will take place in the scenic Phoenix Park, Dublin.

Colour Dash is not just a run, but a colourful celebration aimed at raising vital funds for the Irish Cancer Society’s Children and Young Adolescents (CAYA) support services.

Participants of all ages – walkers, joggers, and runners – are invited to join and be doused in colour as they run each kilometre of the course.

Anna Daly, the event’s ambassador, alongside the Grant Family from Ratoath, Meath, are leading the call to action.

Cancer survivor Tommy Grant, age five, his sister Shannon, and their mother Róisín are urging the community to sign up and support the cause.

Róisín shared their personal journey, highlighting the significant impact of the Irish Cancer Society’s support during Tommy’s battle with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) in 2021.

“Colour Dash is a wonderful opportunity to support children and young adults affected by cancer. It’s not about speed but about enjoying a fun, colourful day with family and friends,” Róisín said.

She spoke of the financial strain their family faced during Tommy’s treatment and expressed deep gratitude for the Society’s assistance, which helped ease their burden during an incredibly challenging time.

Anna Daly echoed these sentiments and said: “We all know someone affected by cancer. My father Noel’s diagnosis brought this home for me. I cannot imagine the added distress of a child’s diagnosis.

‘The Irish Cancer Society’s services are crucial for families navigating this tough journey. Colour Dash offers a fantastic day out while making a real difference for young cancer patients.”

Sinead Gillespie, National Fundraising Lead at the Irish Cancer Society, underscores the importance of community support.

“Each year, around 200 children and 180 young adults in Ireland are diagnosed with cancer. Our services—from the Support Line and activity camps to in-hospital support, counselling, financial grants, complementary therapies, and Night Nursing—rely heavily on fundraising.

“With only 5% of our income coming from the Government, events like Colour Dash are essential.”

Spaces for Colour Dash 2024 are limited and expected to sell out quickly. Interested participants can register now at cancer.ie/colourdash.

Registration fees are €35 per adult, €25 for teenagers (13-17 years), and €10 for children 12 and under.

Don’t miss this opportunity to bring some colour into your summer and support a crucial cause.
